Originally called The Van Doren Rubber Company, Vans was founded in 1966 by the Van Duren Brothers, along with Gorden Lee and Serge Delia. It all started with the, made to order, original #44 deck shoe which is now referred to as the ‘Authentic’. A decade later in 1976, the Vans #95 was born, now known as ‘The Era’. This sneaker introduced different color combinations to the Vans collections and it featured a padded collar for enhanced support. One year later, they released the Vans #36 sneaker, now known as ‘Old Skool’. Here the famous Vans Sidestripe made its debut, becoming an instant classic in the skating community. Shortly after came along Style 38, the ‘Sk8-Hi’ sneaker, which strayed from the pack with its high top finish. Soon after its release, the ‘Sk8-Hi’ became an overnight sensation and has continued to be a staple in the skateboarding and surfboarding communities just as the other iconic Vans sneakers have been ever since.
